Experience the next stage of your diving development with Stuart Girdler.
Train in Twinset or Sidemount with RAID’s modern, ISO-aligned technical diving system.
Technical diving demands precision, discipline, and complete control. At Diving Disciplines, Stuart Girdler delivers RAID’s full OC technical pathway in either Twinset or Sidemount, giving divers the flexibility to progress using their preferred configuration.
This pathway takes you beyond recreational limits and prepares you for advanced decompression, multi-gas planning, extended bottom times, and safe execution of deep dives up to 60 metres using mixed gas. Dive deeper with confidence, backed by RAID’s updated curriculum and Stuart’s operational-level expertise.
What OC Tec Courses Cover:
Advanced gas planning & decompression modelling
Expedition-level buoyancy, trim, and propulsion
Team protocols & situational control
Deep-water emergency & bailout preparation

A helium-light decompression program introducing efficient gas planning, safe ascents, and the discipline needed to progress deeper.

Develop the skills to execute longer, deeper, multi-stop decompression dives with full mixed-gas capability.

Master advanced dive planning, multi-gas switching, and extended decompression using normoxic trimix to 60 metres.
Decades of technical diving, expedition leadership, and instructor-trainer experience make Stuart one of RAID’s most trusted technical educators. His training style is precise, structured, and operationally driven, focusing on real-world capability rather than box-ticking.
With small class ratios and uncompromising safety standards, you learn to dive deeper, longer, and more efficiently—while maintaining absolute control in every phase of the dive.
What You Will Master:
Gas & Decompression Planning: Learn advanced gas modelling, stage-gas workflows, ascent strategies, and multi-stop decompression procedures for extended-range diving.
Configuration Precision: Develop disciplined equipment management, gas-switch accuracy, pre-dive checks, and in-water competency using Twinset or Sidemount—without favouring one configuration over the other.
Emergency Preparedness: Master high-stress drills, bailout protocols, and situational management designed for deep environments and complex decompression obligations.
Technical Buoyancy & Trim: Build the control and consistency expected of RAID technical divers, ensuring stability, repeatability, and efficiency at depth.

RAID’s modern 40–60 metre Open Circuit Technical pathway provides a clear, structured progression for divers stepping into deeper, mixed-gas environments. Stuart delivers every course within the pathway, guiding divers from their first decompression skills through to advanced trimix capability.
While all levels are available, Stuart’s primary focus, and the area where he offers the deepest expertise, is Trimix Open Circuit training. The UK’s colder waters, limited visibility, and demanding wreck environments make helium-based diving the superior and safer choice, providing reduced narcosis, cleaner decision-making, and greater control at depth.
Given the UK’s environmental conditions, this is the recommended progression:
Decompression: RAID Limited Trimix Decompression 45m
Air / Nitrox / Helium-light
Advanced Decompression: RAID Advanced Decompression 50m
Full trimix & extended decompression
Normoxic Decompression: RAID Normoxic Decompression 60m
Deep mixed-gas decompression & extended bottom times

The UK’s cold water, variable visibility, and depth profiles make helium a safer, clearer-headed, and more controlled choice for serious technical training. Stuart’s OC Tec programs reflect this, emphasising precision, gas management discipline, narcosis mitigation, and real-world operational skill. Helium isn’t a luxury at depth, it’s a safety tool.
