Why Choose the RAID Hypoxic Trimix Diver?

The Hypoxic Trimix program represents the pinnacle of open-circuit technical diving, designed for elite divers ready to explore the deepest reaches of the ocean. This course transitions you into the realm of "hypoxic" breathing gases mixes containing less than 18% oxygen which are essential for safely managing oxygen toxicity at extreme depths. By mastering these protocols, you unlock historically significant wrecks and deep-sea environments that remain hidden to the rest of the world.

What This Course Helps You Achieve

his program provides the advanced expertise required to safely plan and execute extreme-depth expeditions. You will achieve:

  • Expedition Dive Access: Certify to explore depths of up to 80 meters (260 feet) or 100 meters (330 feet) depending on your chosen level.

  • Hypoxic Gas Management: Learn the specialized "travel gas" procedures required to safely descend and ascend when your bottom gas is not breathable at the surface.

  • Multi-Stage Proficiency: Master the use of three or more decompression cylinders to optimize complex ascent schedules.

  • Total Autonomy: Develop the discipline to manage multi-hour decompression obligations with absolute precision and team coordination.

What You’ll Learn in the RAID Hypoxic Trimix Diver Course

  • Advanced Hypoxic Physics: Detailed study of Dalton’s Law and partial pressures as they apply to hypoxic mixtures.

  • Decompression Science: Advanced dive planning using multiple gases and complex software to manage significant inert gas loading.

  • Expedition Logistics: Calculating massive gas volumes and implementing "team gas" protocols for deep-sea support.

  • Inert Gas Narcosis Control: Utilizing high helium content to ensure a clear head and an equivalent narcotic depth (END) of 30 meters or less.

  • Complex Emergency Response: Managing catastrophic equipment failures and gas sharing at depths where every second and breath is critical.

Mastering the Core OC Trimix Diver Skills

Your training follows RAID’s structured technical progression, beginning with foundation theory, refining your skills in confined water, and culminating in advanced open-water execution.

Step 1: Online Learning

Complete all RAID academic modules covering:

  • Hypoxic Gas Laws: Deep analysis of travel gas, bottom gas, and deco gas transitions.

  • Physiology of Depth: Managing High Pressure Nervous Syndrome (HPNS) and extreme gas density.

  • Management & Safety: Complex gas sharing and bailout planning for multi-stage configurations.

Step 2: In-Water Skills

You will complete a skills-focused confined session to master:

  • Multi-Stage Handling: Managing three or more stage cylinders with perfect trim and buoyancy.

  • Travel Gas Transitions: Perfecting the switch from breathable surface gas to hypoxic bottom gas during descent.

  • Expedition Propulsion: Perfecting helicopter turns and back-finning with heavy equipment loads.

Step 3: Open Water Dives

Your open-water training includes multiple staged decompression dives with:

  • Deep Staged Decompression: At least two dives must reach a depth of 70 meters (80m course) or 85 meters (100m course).

  • Gas Management Discipline: Real-world execution of travel, bottom, and accelerated decompression gas switches.

  • Stress Management: Solving complex simulated failures at significant depth.

Certification Limits & Operational Protocols

  • Depth Limit: Maximum 80m / 260ft or 100m / 330ft depending on certification.

  • Gas Mixture: Hypoxic Trimix diluent/bottom gas with travel gas protocols.

  • Narcotic Limit: Maximum END/EAD must not exceed 30 meters / 100 feet.

  • Gas Reserve: Mandatory one-third reserve planning for all gas volumes.

Progression Pathway

The Hypoxic Trimix Diver is the final tier of open-circuit technical training. From here, divers typically move into:
Hypoxic CCR Programs: Transitioning these deep protocols to Closed Circuit Rebreathers.

Overhead Environments: Applying deep trimix skills to advanced Cave or Wreck penetration.

Professional Tier: Pursuing Instructor-level certifications to teach technical diving.
