Why Choose the RAID Decompression Diver 45M Course?

The RAID Decompression 45m course is the advanced progression for divers ready to transcend recreational limits and master the art of staged decompression. It is specifically designed for those who have mastered the fundamentals of the Deco 40 program and are ready to safely navigate the increased complexities of deeper, high-risk diving environments. By expanding your range to 45 meters, you gain access to spectacular, historically significant wrecks and unique marine life previously inaccessible to the average diver.

What This Course Helps You Achieve

  • Extended Range: Safely plan and execute dives to a maximum depth of 45 meters (145 feet).

  • Decompression Proficiency: Learn to manage mandatory decompression stops using optimized schedules.

  • Task Loading Mastery: Develop the ability to maintain stability and neutral buoyancy while managing technical equipment.

  • Optimized Ascent: Utilize a separate stage cylinder with up to 100% oxygen to reduce decompression times safely.

What You’ll Learn in the Decompression Diver 45M Course

  • Advanced Physics & Physiology: Master the complex gas dynamics and nitrogen loading associated with 45m exposures.

  • Technical Gas Planning: Learn to calculate gas volumes, including the one-third reserve rule for team safety.

  • Optimized Decompression: Understand the protocols for using high-oxygen nitrox for accelerated stops.

  • Emergency Response: Practice problem-solving in a technical environment, including long-hose gas sharing and backup mask deployment.

  • Team Protocols: Refine communication and positioning within a technical diving team.

  • Be medically fit for technical diving

  • Complete all RAID documentation and online registration

  • Hold a RAID Sidemount or Twinset Diver certification if using those setups for the course.

Mastering the Core OC Trimix Diver Skills

Stuart Girdler ensures you master a modern technical skill set that includes:

Step 1: Online Learning

Complete all RAID academic modules covering:

  • Equipment & Physics: Deep-sea equipment requirements and advanced gas laws.

  • Management & Planning: Calculating gas volume requirements and decompression software mastery.

  • Physiology: Understanding oxygen toxicity limits and decompression sickness risks.

  • Manuals & Quizzes: Comprehensive theory review before practical application.

Step 2: In-Water Skills

A skills-focused confined or sheltered water session to master:

  • Stage Rigging: Removing and replacing a stage cylinder on the surface and underwater.

  • Gas Switching: Precise protocols for switching to decompression gases at depth.

  • Shutdown Drills: Managing simulated equipment failures in twinset or sidemount setups.

  • Advanced Propulsion: Frog kick, back finning, helicopter turns, and modified flutter kicks.

Step 3: Open Water Dives

Your open-water training includes at least four dives featuring:

  • Actual Decompression: At least one dive must be a real decompression dive.

  • Deep Exposure: At least two dives must be deeper than 35 meters (115 feet).

  • SMB Deployment: Perfecting surface marker buoy deployment from depth.

  • Stress Resistance: Managing simulated failures and gas sharing during ascents.
